In order to start live streaming on Tiktok, users will have to be over 18 in the future. This should be a new security feature.
Douyin from 18: Videos that sound hot should have the opposite effect and ensure the safety of short video platforms. Teenagers will no longer be able to start streaming there, they now have to be of age to do so. The start date for this restriction is November 23, 2022.
Even before that, the presenter of the stream had to be at least 16 years old. Direct messages can also only be sent before the age of 16, so you have to be over 18 to give virtual gifts or even monetize content. The only problem is how TikTok tracks age - no real control.
TikTok filter for security
TikTok will also soon be able to choose whether its live content should be aimed only at adults or at a younger audience. TikTok made it clear right away that the videos don't have to be crass videos or profanity, but can simply be age-appropriate humor. "We believe these leading standards can help protect young members of the community while they're still building their online presence."
Comments on live videos can also be automatically filtered so that certain terms do not appear. Video services will soon come up with such keywords and features before streaming begins. In testing, this resulted in twice as many exceptions as no suggestion, Tiktok wrote in the announcement.
However, Tiktok itself should also use text filters to prevent unwanted content. According to research by NDR, WDR and Tagesschau, this includes words such as Nazi, slave, gas and homosexuality. The research network concluded that this restricts freedom of expression on the platform.
